New Hampshire Police Association: Welcome

The Lt. Steven P. Demo New Hampshire Cops with Cancer Fund, Inc. was established in 1999, by Lt. Steven P. Demo of the Portsmouth, NH Police Department during his brave battle with cancer. On September 25, 1999, family and friends, and brother and sister law enforcement officers honored Lt. Steven P. Demo at a barbecue, in Dover, NH. The purpose of this barbecue was to raise funds for Steve to take his family to Disney World while his cancer was in remission. During this barbecue, the slogan “NH Law Enforcement Cares” was created to express NH police officers dedication to one another, when in need. Pleasantly, this fund-raiser far exceeded the financial goal set. Upon the termination of the fund-raiser, Steve gave $5,000.00 to the New Hampshire Police Association to start the Cops with Cancer fund. Understanding how costly a fight with cancer can be, Steve wanted to give something back to his brother and sister law enforcement officers, should this terrible disease strike a NH police officer or their immediate family. Hence, a committee was established to oversee the Cops with Cancer fund, administered through the New Hampshire Police Association.

Recognizing that requests for financial aid could deplete the existing fund once requests for assistance were received, the committee planned a memorial golf tournament in Steve’s name, with all proceeds to go to the Lt. Steven P. Demo New Hampshire Cops with Cancer Fund, Inc. On September 26, 2001, 2 years and 1 day following the Demo Barbecue, the golf tournament was held, and met with extraordinary support and success. The Golf tournament will be held yearly to continue to support Lt. Steve Demo’s vision and commitment to his brothers and sisters in New Hampshire law enforcement.

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Lt. Steven P. Demo New Hampshire Cops with Cancer Fund, Inc. to assist members of the New Hampshire law enforcement community financially when an officer or his/her immediate household family be stricken with cancer. To ease the financial burden of a police family, allowing them to focus on what is important during the recovery and treatment stages of cancer.

Eligibility

Any current member of the New Hampshire Law Enforcement Community (regular, associate or retired) and members of their immediate household family (husband, wife, and children) are eligible to apply for financial assistance through the Cops with Cancer fund.

Application

Requests for financial aid should be submitted to the any Trustee of the fund in writing describing the nature of the cancer, treatment schedules and locations.

Allowable Financial Aid

The cancer fund will aid families in the following manner:

Transportation to and from treatment facilities in the form of fuel expenses, tolls; bus or airfare, or other means of transportation deemed acceptable by the Lt. Steven P. Demo New Hampshire Cops with Cancer Fund, Inc. Board of Trustees. (Bus and airfares will be address on a case by case basis, and unfortunately, the fund may not be able to pay for all of the fares requested, but may contribute towards the fees).
Lodging while at treatment facilities. Allowance will not exceed $100.00 per night. A maximum of 5 consecutive nights is allowable. Exceeding 5 nights lodging must be addressed and approved through the Cops with Cancer fund Board of Trustees.
Food expenses while attending treatment facilities.

Non-Allowable Expenses

The Lt. Steven P. Demo New Hampshire Cops with Cancer Fund, Inc. WILL NOT supplement the cost of medications, insurance short falls or any other non-covered medical expenses.

FINAL WISHES: The Lt. Steven P. Demo New Hampshire Cops with Cancer Fund, Inc. will make every attempt to honor final wishes of families battling cancer in the form of financial aid to help fulfill the last wishes of a cancer victim.

NOTE: The Lt. Steven P. Demo New Hampshire Cops with Cancer Fund, Inc. regrets that all requests for financial aid are limited in fund availability at the present time. It is the intention of the Lt. Steven P. Demo New Hampshire Cops with Cancer Fund, Inc. to increase benefits as the Cancer fund grows in time and financial stability. All requests for financial aid will be assessed by the Lt. Steven P. Demo New Hampshire Cops with Cancer Fund, Inc. Board of Trustees, on a case by case basis.

The Lt. Steven P. Demo New Hampshire Cops with Cancer Fund, Inc. reserves the right to approve or deny requests for assistance.

Donations

The Lt. Steven P. Demo New Hampshire Cops with Cancer Fund, Inc. was established for NH law enforcement by NH law enforcement. Any contribution to this fund is welcomed and encouraged. Always remember “New Hampshire Law Enforcement Cares”…
